Captain America Reborn Today

Captain AmericaThere was little surprise when Marvel Comics announced Captain America: Reborn. Released today, July 1st, Captain America: Reborn carries the answers of what direction Marvel intends to take the Living Legend. July's release marks the second return of the hero.

Issue #600 of Captain America stirred newspapers and broadcast media to report the death of a Marvel Comics icon. Publishers have killed heroes in dramatic fashion previously, most significantly Superman’s death in the 90’s. Recently Batman was killed in the Final Crisis crossover. Captain America’s death sparked attention as he was assassinated on the very steps of New York’s Federal Courthouse. The illustrative imagery was potent enough to fixate media attentions.

Captain America has always received direct or indirect acknowledgement for the type of heroic symbolism represented. Marvel’s notion to kill Captain America while factual debates of greater importance and impact refine social thought and national politics has slightly consternated audiences. Motivation for the death of Jack Kirby’s and Joe Simon’s 1941 creation had been questioned by journalists. Marvel Comics asserted within interviews that the Sentinel of Liberty’s death was sincerely of plot direction.
