In a breaking news report from Access Hollywood via Yahoo! News, Kirsten Dunst has been confirmed to return as Peter Parker's sweetheart in the upcoming Spider-Man 4. However, rumours of wedding bliss for the couple in movie, slated for release on May 6, 2011, have been denied - or at least producer Todd Black maintains that he is unaware of such a plot event. As indicated by this Examiner's enthusiasm for such marital vows in a previous article, this denial is at the least dissapointing, but the confirmed return of Dunst as Mary Jane Watson is only good news.

The film's producer have also shot down the possibility of Morbius, the Living Vampire as one of the villains in the upcoming film, but have hinted that the main villain "[has] a significant connection to the Big Apple." Exactly who the antagonist is or what the apple connection is remains uncertain; but film critic Scott Maniz's top pick is the Kingpin, a powerfully-built crime lord with no superhuman abilities and yet fully capable of terrorizing our friendly neighborhood webslinger. The Kingpin, or Wilson Fisk, may be familiar to comic book film fans as the central villain of the 2003 Daredevil starring Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner. In that film, the Kingpin was portrayed by 6'5'' actor Michael Clarke Duncan. As strong of a connection Fisk has to the Big Apple, the chances of the character appearing in a Spider-Man film are uncertain as 20th Century Fox produced and currently owns the rights to the Daredevil film. Nevertheless, a familiar villain whose evil is purely human would be a fresh and new challenge to the superhero Spider-Man. Mantz also hopes the Black Cat, a female cat burglar who shares a romantic histor with both Peter Parker and Spider-Man, would add a new and deeper angle to the relationship between Peter Parker and Mary Jane.

With this news announced, it seems that the creative trio of Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and Sam Rami are prepared once again to spin new silver screen tales for Spider-Man, and villain rumors as good as these, 2011 is going to be a long but satisfying wait.
