The end of last year was a relief for some after a long and frustrating year dealing with the pandemic but over in China they embraced the New Year with a very special Marvel show.

Marvel hosted a New Years Eve Musical show LIVE in China that gave fans a chance to hear the most memorable music brought to life through Marvel's Avengers. The full orchestra put on a stunning performance for fans to listen to help countdown to the New Year!

The performance was complete with an Infinity Gauntlet and an unveiling of some Avengers statues or holographs, not exactly sure. Well Done Marvel! What we all need from our heroes to bring us in to an important and hopefully better New Year in 2021!

We asked our intrepid staff to choose their all time favourite scene from a superhero film.

First, as he insisted on being first, our esteemed President, Steve Eyre.

As a superhero fan for over half a century and owner of the largest collection of superhero memorabilia in Europe, Steve knows a bit about superheroes but which scene rocked his world the most:

“It’s a tough one. The helicopter scene in Superman has to be up there for sure and the beginning of Batman where Micheal Keaton dangles Moxy from Auf Weidersehen Pet off a building and growls, “I’m Batman” is in the frame. Two Avengers scenes always give me goosebumps. The first in Avengers Assemble when the team form a back to back circle in the rubble of New York  to battle the marauding alien horde. The second in Endgame where all the Avengers and their allies assemble for the final slap down with Thanos. I also love the dawn “On your left.” running scene at the beginning of Captain America: Winter Soldier. But if you’re forcing me to pick one, which I know you are, I’m going to have to choose controversially and unapologetically a scene from the much maligned Justice League movie. It’s when Superman returns from the dead, still not “compus mentis” being confronted by the rest of the Justice League. The bit where Superman tracks Flash as he tries to flank him at super speed, is for a superhero fan, pure movie gold.”

So that’s Steve’s choice. Keep a look out for what the rest of our team choose and don’t be shy in letting us know yours.

We obviously love comics here at Worldofsuperheroes.com and we have a lot of vintage Spider-Man comics for sale in our store but most of ours are decades old with Spidey wearing his original suit.

So when we saw that Marvel are giving Spider-Man a new spidey suit we had to share it. Marvel has released an image of the new high tech costume designed by Dustin Weaver he will be wearing in The Amazing Spider-Man #62 written by Nick Spencer and artist Patrick Gleason. Making its debut in the March issue, the new suit is undoubtedly designed to help him battle an enemy, it does give him a kind of Ant-Man look though!

Despite the fact that the Covid-19 is still spreading through the world, pushing through is something that all heroes have to face at some point.

Failing and learning from our mistakes is a part of life and especially when life is at it's hardest. Whether it's Captain America who never gives up in a fight or Spider-Man who has to carry on and become stronger after his Uncle Ben dies, they inspire us to keep going. Being at home more can be stressful but if you feel like you need help being able to keep pushing through here are the hero films I recommend to watch to help lift your spirit and help you feel like you are not alone.

Guardians of the Galaxy
Most Marvel films bring back a lot of meaning to my life as it has been a part of my personal and work life since the MCU began. The 80's songs from Guardians are not only uplifting but I'm sure they bring back precious memories as much as they do for me. The humour, cast and characters reflect the comics and the constant struggle for the team to get along after being force to pull together reflects how I am sure a lot of families feel at the minute with the constant parent and child frustrations, juggling work and uncertainty of the current world.

Avengers Assemble
The Avengers team do have the similar struggles reflected in their teams efforts to get along but for me watching this film takes me back to before Thanos and the sadness that came with Avengers: Infinity Wars and the current pandemic. It takes me back to that moment when I had no worries and watched in wonder at the Avengers brought to life on screen, as I am sure many other fans did.

Thor
Thor's personal journey in his origin movie, feeling that being worthy is being forceful, selfish and vane can reflect us all. Whether we feel we have to control our children, co-workers. We act without thinking of the consequences when we are angry or afraid. Thor's journey in this film shows that in life we have to be calmer, observe what's around us and not go looking for fights and look after the people we care about. Oh yes and I almost forgot seeing Tom Hiddleston play Loki for the first time just made this movies, bring on the Loki series this year!

Captain America
This is definitely one of my favourite Marvel movies as I love how Cap, despite his transformation from the Super Soldier Serum, desires to help others above himself, which is truly heart warming. We are currently going through the biggest disaster to spread through the globe since WW2. Although it is a different threat to humans, Caps ability to carry on despite the odds during the War which reflects how so many people carried on through the hardships of War, is inspiring to us all!
